Whats better than a couple of Pizza's in front of the TV on a Friday night? Well, thats how I feel when my partner rolls out his famous pizza dough and puts together his amazing shitake mushroom and tiger prawn pizza. However last night, after a looonnnggg day at work we opted for a take away.
I will explain to you first a little about this pizza bar.... It's old! Livio has been there for over 22 years and has a large regular customer base. He has only two staff there (including himself) and they are always very busy. They offer pick up or dine in, however there is only a few small tables which are squeezed into the back of the shop. The inside of the shop is in desperate need of a renovation (or even a general clean), however some would say that this adds to the experience.
We ordered our pizza's just before 7.30 and we were told they would be done in 20-25 minutes. I headed down there about twenty minutes later but they hadn't even been made. I wasn't upset though as I saw this as a great opportunity to get some pics and check out the toilets! BIG mistake, HUGE mistake. I felt like I needed to have a shower after this.....Pictures will explain all.
After the traumatising toilet experience, I decided to sit with all the other patient customers near the front of the shop. Livio is a very vocal pizza maker... Often engaging in conversations with the customers at the back of the shop while tossing a base in the air. Tonight the customers at the back were not talking but rather yelling to find out where the hell their pizza's were!!! Luckily ours was ready before theirs and I didn't witness any violent pizza outbursts.
There seems to be many awesome reviews for this place, but after tasting it myself I am thinking that these people must have made great use of the bar and/or liquor store next door before eating their pizza.
Food: 3/10
We ordered two pizza's, a supreme and a margarita (the safe option). They were both undercooked and tasteless. The outside of the margarita was cooked well, however as you got into the middle both the dough and topping was soft and droopy. The cheese had sort of floated away from the crust and sat in the middle of the pizza (in the excess tomato soup base!).
The supreme again was very undercooked with the cabanosi looking like it had just been sliced up and put on top. There was very little cheese over the toppings and the dough was soft in the middle. The onion was very undercooked as was the capsicum. Be careful of the olives, they aren't pitted!
Service: 3/10
This place is desperately understaffed, resulting in long waiting times! Very annoying when all you want is a quick pizza.
Pricing: 6/10
Average pricing, a small margarita was about $8 and the large supreme just short of $20.
The Vibe: 5/10
Dim lighting, and the smell of pizza has a very authentic feeling. Probably not the best place for a first date though.
Accessibility: 9/10
Bus stop right out the front. There is street parking and a 2hr public car park out the back also.
Clean Toilets: 0/10
AH... NO!
